Why did you choose TKE?
So my fraternity experience was atypical from most in that I joined Sigma Alpha halfway through my Junior year. I was invited to a Warehouse Party by Brian Schooley who I’d met in a class we shared. When I arrived at the party there were at least eight other gentlemen I knew from various classes so it made for easy introductions. Previous to this I had the stereotypical “Animal House” perceptions of fraternities so I was somewhat shocked that mostly everyone I met did not fit that mold. What I really found enticing then and to this day was absolute diversity of the group, from the stud to the cerebral, the introvert to the skilled debater, the Jew to the Born Again, you name it we had it! This made the group multidimensional and this skillset translated to great successes on campus.
Who influneced you most in your time in the Fraternity?
I can’t really say any one Brother influenced me more than another, however, for me what did make an impact was the position of the Prytanis. Fraternities are run like corporations and we were no exception. I witnessed five Prytanis during my time and I truly appreciated each ones managerial decision style (or lack thereof). Each tackled similar issues during their tenure but all approached it vastly differently ways. I carried these early lessons with me to this day when running both my company and with my personal life.
Share your best college/Fraternity memory?
Too many to count but right up there on top was our 1992 Greek week win. For an outsider looking in it can be viewed as a meaningless accomplishment but the thrill of intense competition between the different fraternities and involvement from each member of the Chapter instilled a sense of Brotherhood that words cannot quantify. Ohh that final celebration was epic!
What was the most important thing you learned in the Fraternity?
The relationships built in the fraternity are enduring. To this day All my best friends are fraternity Brothers.
Describe the Fraternity in three words?
Brotherhood for Life!
How did your education and/or Fraternity experience prepare you for where you are today?
My fraternity experience enabled me to get outside of my comfort zone. As a natural born introvert I found myself in all types of speaking engagements and social settings thus building confidence in oneself.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
Yes, for years I’ve owned a successful real estate and property management company, but the most meaningful part is having helped over a thousand people find a home to call their own.
What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in your professional field?
Take advantage NOW and immerse yourself in every networking opportunity possible as these relationships will follow you well past your University days. The relationships you build today are enduring and everlasting. As a residential Real Estate Broker I preach to my new agents that to be successful its not what you know but who you know. Your network is your net worth! Truth be told, I wish I was given this advice 30 years ago.
What is something people may not know about you?
I’m a huge history buff and I collect art.
